8pm New York time
----------------------------

Sean Carroll, one of the great working scientists, will deliver
a Reading Odyssey lecture for our Darwin150 campaign tonight,
Wednesday, November 4 at 8pm New York time.

His lecture - "Making of the Fittest: Natural Selection and the
DNA Record of Evolution" - is free and you can register to watch
via webcast here:
http://DarwinLecture3.eventbrite.com

This webcast marks a milestone for the Reading Odyssey.

Why?

We have set up remote viewing of the lecture all over the world.

>From India to Mexico, from Spain to Canada, from Germany to
Argentina, and across these United States, people will
be watching Sean Carroll together.

Want to see a sample of the many places watching tonight?
http://tinyurl.com/Lecture3network

How were we able to do this?

Talented volunteers and sponsors made it happen.

These volunteers and sponsors support the mission of the
Reading Odyssey to help adults play with and reignite our
curiosity about great books, ideas, art and science.

One of the most important and talented of the volunteers is
Professor Sean Carroll himself.

A finalist for the 2009 National Book Award, Sean Carroll is
both a great scientist - a pioneer in evolutionary developmental
biology - and a teacher passionate about making the beauty and
power of evolution accessible to people worldwide.

His book, "Endless Forms Most Beautiful", inspired my own
exploration of evolutionary biology and was influential in
shaping the origins of the Reading Odyssey. His current book,
"Remarkable Creatures" is, in a word, remarkable.

He's a real hero of mine and I'm honored that he has volunteered
to give a live lecture straight from the Ebling Symposium Center
in the Microbial Sciences Building at the University of
Wisconsin.
Slow Art 2009 - a success

Our first Slow Art experiment in October 2009 led to *16* Slow
Art events around the world.

It was successful. Attendees loved the experience of looking
at a few pieces of art for 10 minutes or more.
ABOUT READING ODYSSEY
Reading Odyssey is a nonprofit (in the process of applying
for 501c(3) status) dedicated to helping adults play with culture.

We aim to help adults engage their intellectual curiosity -
and create conversations that provoke us to think and to see
in new ways.

Reading Odyssey hosts small tutorials and large lecture series.

We run Slow Art and the Darwin150 campaign - the latter with
over 250,000 members on Facebook. We are currently in the early
planning stages for both Slow Art 2010 and also a major
two-year celebration of the 2,500 year anniversary of the Battle
of Marathon (the anniversary is September 2011).

VOLUNTEER?
Would you like to help volunteer behind the scenes?

We need LOTS of help - technical assistance (we want to build
a new website and are looking for an individual or a firm to
donate their services), promotional assistance, and help building
our grassroots network of individuals, colleges, universities,
high schools and so on.
