Hey folks; looking forward to this. Wife of 37 years, Gayle, and I live
in the Texas hill country just south of Austin where I practice civil trial
law, primarily representing consumers/ injured individuals and families.
Until May of '08 we lived in northeast Texas where we hosted
singer/songwriters for about 17 years at a venue called "Roland's Next Door"
(so named because it was "next door" to my law office). During the same
period I had a "feel good music" band known as "Plain Folks" doing a
combination of original and cover material. Despite two college degrees, I
largely managed to remain undereducated which is why I am, at 59 years of
age, trying to soak up as much useful and/or interesting "learning" as I
can. I was taken with Pat from the first time I heard him perform at the
New Folk, emerging artists contest at the Kerrville Folk Festival. The
opportunity to combine interaction with Pat and get to read and discuss a
previously unread classic was enough for me to make a commitment to cram it
into an already crazy schedule.

As an aside, but an important one, I know each of you are doing what you can
to support the Haitian relief effort. The tragedy tugs at me particularly
because I had the opportunity to be in Port-au-Prince as guitarist for a
performing group in 1968, and even then, under the heavy hand of "papa Doc"
Duvalier, those impoverished people had a warmth about them that touched me
deeply. "See" all of you on Tuesday.
