To the Xenophon group:
Two other good reads--about the Alcibiades era--are two novels:
One I read many years ago: "The Last of the Wine" by Mary Renault
(1981).
The other more recent: "The Tides of War," by Steven Pressfield (2000).
Renault, of course, wrote many novels of ancient Greece. The ones
I've read have been very enjoyable. Pressfield has written three that
I've read: the above, and "Gates of Fire," about the battle of
Thermopylae, and another whose title I've forgotten, about the mythic
era attack of the Amazons against Athens, under Theseus. "Gates of
Fire" is quite good.
I don't know why I didn't think of these earlier.
