Recently I read a book called "The Soul of Battle" by classical historian
Victor Davis Hanson.
Hanson described Epaminondas -- a major figure in Hellenika -- as one of the
greatest military and political liberators of all time.
So, I'm going into the book rooting for Epaminondas.
That's probably not the best way to approach a history, but I find myself
paying more attention if I cheer for a side (kind of like having a bet on a
football game to make myself care about it).
