Hey Folks,

I'm Bill Damon and by day I help build the web sites for a medical publisher in Boston and at night I am a shamanic healing practitioner.

I've read the Old Testament, Plato, and Aristotle with the Reading Odyssey.

I joined the Reading Odyssey because I loved the goals and the projects that Phil and Pat have taken on. And I've learned a great historical perspective from the works we've talked about in the conference calls. The calls have been a really great place for me to get a better understand of the readings and their context. They've also helped me greatly during those times when I had trouble getting the larger view of what we were reading also.

Its great to meet everyone! Talk to you all soon.

Bill

On Thu, Dec 31, 2009 at 4:59 PM, Andre Stipanovic <astipanovic@mail.hockaday.org> wrote:
First, we will talk a little bit about how to get the most out of this particular edition of Hellenika. Please make sure to get a copy of the Landmark Xenophon edited by Robert Strassler if you haven’t already done so. Then read the Editor’s Preface (pp. lxvii-lxxiv) and Key to Maps (p. lxxxii) to help you get acquainted with the format of this very user-friendly book. I also suggest you briefly look over the Chronological Outline of Text (p. lxxix) and bookmark it for later reference as a handy ‘road map’ of how events unfold in later books. I will briefly comment on these sections before I take us through events leading up to Book I (pp. ix-xii)
as well as Xenophon’s life (pp. xvii-xxi).

He will be explaining to us why comparing sources is critical in terms of understanding Xenophon’s intent and veracity. You can look over pp. xxvi-xxx and lix-lxii in the Introduction to get acquainted with these issues if you like before or after the call.
