[Iliad1] Welcome to the Iliad1 reading group!

Second try … 

Over the years I’ve been a pianist, (Wellesley ’56), an art historian (Yale ’58), a special librarian (UMd ’84), and a photographer (all my life), as well as a mother (of 3, now grown) and a Foreign Service spouse.  Lived in Turkey in the ‘60s (yes, went to Troy), in Egypt in the ‘70s (recently becoming a regular viewer of Al Jazeera English), and in Bangladesh, the only place where I did not learn the language and had to live in a golden ghetto.  Retired  in 2000, looked around awhile, including at the 40 years of photographs I had been taking.  See current web site below.   Tried local book clubs but began looking farther afield for something more challenging.  Somehow learned about this project (don’t remember how!).  Vaguely recall reading parts of the  Iliad along the way, even in high school English.  Look forward to a concentrated focus on the whole thing!  This edition’s  cover photo of the D-Day landings knocked me sideways!  Love it!  Wish there was an iconic photo of the 2003 invasion of Iraq.  Even more relevant, perhaps.

Hi Everyone,

I have been moderating reading groups for Reading Odyssey for about six or seven years now with various books including Homer, Herodotus, Thucydides, Xenophon and Arrian.  I am a high school Latin teacher by day at the Hockaday School in north Dallas.  I enjoy reading Classical literature and history.  I am currently working on writing a book about Tacitus' Agricola.  I also enjoy camping with my family and playing the guitar.
