[Iliad1] What are your first impressions of Iliad?

Hey everyone,

Hope your holidays are going well. 

As you start your reading of Iliad, please jot down a few thoughts on
these questions:

What is surprising to you?
What is confusing?
Do you have a favorite passage or phrase?
What are your initial impressions?

Just make a few notes and send them back to me only (do not hit "reply
all" on this). I'm asking you not to share with the whole group in this
instance because I want to preserve your initial impressions for you. 
Initial impressions are important but can be easily lost or forgotten
after our 'official' questions or comments from others frame the reading . 

Input from others is key - but we want to balance that with the richness
of your own experience. 

So, take a moment and send me some fragments, bits and pieces of
impressions and thoughts - nothing formal and nothing that I'll share.
I'll send it back to you before our first session so you can reflect on it.
