Hello,

I am Geoff Cain. I have had some experience reading classical literature in college. That was 20 or 30 years ago now. What I am finding is that as my experience in life grows, my reading also changes. Different things become important. I didn't like the Illiad much in college - I preferred the Odyssey, but there are things now that I really like about the Illiad. I am also interested in this translation. It is a strange edition.

Subject: Fwd: Welcome to the Iliad1 reading group!

Hey everyone,

I've agreed to moderate our Iliad reading group with a mix of Reading Odyssey veterans and new readers. I look forward to this shared experience reading this wonderful epic poem and moderating a monthly discussion with you.

Just three next steps before we all head off on holidays:

1. Get your Iliad - we are reading the Stanley Lombardo edition - and start reading it over the holidays*
http://www.amazon.com/Iliad-Homer/dp/0872203522
        * Reading Odyssey recommends reading 15 minutes a night, if possible. It'll be easier and more fun if you read a bit at a time.

2. Put down the schedule of our monthly conference call discussions (see below)

3. Introduce yourself
Hit "reply" (iliad1 at readingodyssey.org is our group e-mail) and say a few words about yourself and why you decided to read Iliad. And if you are a veteran say a little bit about your prior experience with Reading Odyssey - and if you are new to doing this with us, say why you've decided to try it.

I'll go first and respond to this message with a little background on myself (what I do during the day and evenings when I'm not reading) and why I'm a longtime reader with Reading Odyssey!

Happy holidays!

Thanks,

Andre
