[Iliad1] Welcome to the Iliad1 reading group!

Hi All,
Sorry for the late response.
I'm reading the Iliad with a group in hopes that I can understand why so many like it so well. I have always disliked this (perhaps inordinately)--contra The Odyssey which is filled with a phantasmagoria of weird and wonderful creatures, which helps to balance the blast of Odysseus' arrogance, this always seemed to dwell upon the absolute worst in humanity--from beginning to end wrath, rage, and revenge--all ending in heartache and suffering for those surrounding the central figures.
By day I work developing educational materials, particularly ed tech for middle school students. I will probably be reading this book on Kindle iPad so I hope pagination runs basically the same. But if not, it will be fine.
I'm looking forward to meeting with you all and hearing what you all have experienced in the course of reading.
shalom,
Steven Riddle

3. Introduce yourself
Hit "reply" (iliad1 at readingodyssey.org is our group e-mail) and say a few words about yourself and why you decided to read Iliad. And if you are a veteran say a little bit about your prior experience with Reading Odyssey - and if you are new to doing this with us, say why you've decided to try it.
I'll go first and respond to this message with a little background on myself (what I do during the day and evenings when I'm not reading) and why I'm a longtime reader with Reading Odyssey!
Hi Everyone,
I have been moderating reading groups for Reading Odyssey for about six or seven years now with various books including Homer, Herodotus, Thucydides, Xenophon and Arrian. I am a high school Latin teacher by day at the Hockaday School in north Dallas. I enjoy reading Classical literature and history. I am currently working on writing a book about Tacitus' Agricola. I also enjoy camping with my family and playing the guitar.
Andre
